Week 0 Hot Takes

Updated: Aug 21, 2022

Week one is officially in the books, while we’re still working on our write-up’s from the games here are 5 hot takes from week 1.

  1. Thompson will not three-peat. Thompson traveled to Georgia to play Buford and lost 38-7 and they have a very young team. It’s going to be a little bit of a slower year for the mighty Warriors. Coach Freeman and team will make noise but ultimately not three-peat.

  1. Clay-Chalkville runs 6A. Clay Chalkville destroyed Briarwood 48-0 and it appears 6A once again will run through them. Mountain Brook is good but it appears Clay Chalkville is on another level.

  1. Hoover is in trouble. Hoover struggled to do anything on offense Friday night in the 17-14 loss and had two huge fumbles. If Hoover cannot get going on offense it is in for a rough season. Especially with teams like Spain Park and Vestavia Hills on the rise Hoover is going to have their work cut out for them.

  1. Spain Park makes the playoffs. Tim Vakakes team needed some late game heroics to get it done in a 14-10 win over Calera but they got it done and the defense was light years better than last year. The Jaguars are going to make the playoffs and possibly win the region that’s in a down year.

  1. Auburn or Central Phenix wins 7A. Both teams looked the part in week 1 with wins over the 3rd SEC West division also known as 7A region 3. Both teams have experience and the heartbreak of last season on their minds. They will no doubt match up in the semifinals with the winner taking state.
