High Football Kickoffs This Thursday Night...Are you ready for the return?

It is finally time. High School Football in Alabama is back on Thursday night. Thursday night will officially kick off week 0 of the new season. Here is part 1 of our two parts series talking about the best games in week 0.

Mountain Brook at Vestavia Hills

Vestavia Hills looks to avenge last year's loss at the hands of the Spartans on Thursday night as they welcome in new Head Coach Robert Evans who for the past 4 years served as the defensive coordinator for Mountian Brook. Coach Evans and crew have a tough opener as Mountian Brook returns its Quarterback from last year John Colvin and leading receiver from last year Jackon Beaty. The Spartans also have an experienced offensive line that will no doubt open up holes for running backs, Cole Gamble and Will Waldrop. The defense is also senior-laden with guys like Trent Wright and Vaugh Frost at linebacker and some excellent defensive backs in Braxton Dean and Jack King. For Vestavia expect a fast-paced offense if they're able to get in a rhythm. Right now we still do not know who will get the starting QB job as it is between two juniors in John Paul Head and Luke Tanner. The Rebels are experienced at running back with William Tonsmeire and at receiver as well with Keown Richardson. On defense seniors, Andrew Sykes and Lane Whisenhunt will look to stop the attack of John Colvin and Jackson Beaty. Vestavia is going to get better under Coach Evans but they are opening up with a team who will probably win the 6A Championship.

Prediction: Mountian Brook 31 Vestavia Hills 8

Briarwood at Clay Chalkville

In a rematch of the second round of the playoffs from last year, Clay Chalkville plays host to Briarwood. Clay won the last meeting 56-21 on their way to winning state. But Briarwood is very talented and led by Clemson QB commit Christopher Vizzina with some great receiving targets in Sawyer Russel and Robert Beason. They also return an experienced OLIne and defensive front and will make it a better game than last year. Clay Chalkville is led by Oxford. transfer Kamari McClellan and OL transfer from Fairfield in JacQwan Mcroy who both have offers from Auburn and will be a stout offense as usual. They are led on defense by the leading tackler from last season DJ Barber. This will be closer than you might think.

Prediction: Clay Chalkville:35 Briarwood: 28.
